The Choir |

| St.Mary's Choir consists of both young people and adults. The main purpose of the choir is to lead the congregation of St.Mary's in the worship of God, according to the traditions of the Church of England. The young people are trained to a high standard of musicianship whilst working as a an all-age team. We aim to be a friendly, caring organisation that works hard to instil a sense of belonging, whilst producing high standards of which members can be proud. | ||

The choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and young people are entered into their training scheme, which provides individual teaching in music and the Church of England. The training instils a sense of spirituality and discipline and also develops the self confidence of youngsters, which will be of great benefit to them in higher education and in later life. In return, we ask that choristers regularly attend choir rehearsals in church on Thursdays between 7.00pm and 8pm and church on Sundays between 9.00am and 10.30am. Choristers are sometimes invited to sing at weddings on Saturdays and at a few special services. Notice will be given about these and choristers will often be paid a fee. The choirmaster is a qualified and experienced teacher who has a degree in music and education. There are also four other qualified and experienced teachers in the choir. All activities are carried out within the same strict educational guidelines as govern the state education system.
